TEACH in the U.S.A.

Offers various types of cultural exchange opportunities (work-study, partial and full scholarship programs as well as full-salaried positions are possible) to educators worldwide who wish to experience the American classroom first-hand whether at the elementary, secondary or tertiary level or a combination thereof:

SCHOOL VISIT

(for individuals and groups)

This is a starter program for teachers to “get a taste” of the education system in the United States without committing to a long-term assignment or contract and may be done during the holiday period in the teacher’s home country so as to obviate taking leave or resigning from their job. The SCHOOL VISIT would typically last for 4 weeks during which the visiting teacher is assigned to “shadow” one or more American cooperating teachers and will be involved in observation of American classes in his/her subject and grade level area and will also allow the teacher to participate in the planning of and delivery of daily lessons.

LOCATION OF PROGRAM—Visiting teachers will be placed in schools, colleges and universities nationwide based on availability and the background and preferences of the teacher(s) applying.

PROGRAM DATES—are generally from September through May each year, following the American school year, although some placements may be possible during summer school from June through August.

LOGISTICS—The visiting teacher has the option of choosing a host family where two meals per day are provided or may opt to stay in a hostel or apartment.

TRANSPORTATION--Participants are expected to use public transportation in the community to go to school on a daily basis and are responsible for their own airfare and transportation costs to their assigned community in the United States.

INSURANCE—health and accident insurance coverage is required and will be covered in the program fee.

COST—The program fee will vary depending on the requirements of the applicant and may be met by direct payment to ASIAMERICA or through our work-study option for teachers who are interested in this option. The exact cost or possibility of participating free in our work-study arrangement will be communicated to you once you have submitted a preliminary enquiry/application. Discounts are offered for visiting teacher groups.

VISA—The B-1/2 visitors visa is suggested for this short-term program and the cost of the visa must be borne by the applicant. Details should be gotten from the U.S. Embassy in the home country of the applicant.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS—The SCHOOL VISIT program is open to all teachers or those interested in becoming teachers who are:
· Non-US citizens or permanent residents
· Proficient in English (may be met with suitable TOEFL, IELTS, RSA, CAMBRIDGE exam scores)
· University students or graduates
· Reference letter from your current employer or school

APPLICATION— Teachers interested to join the program should make arrangements to submit a preliminary application by emailing: info@teachusa.org
or faxing to the USA: (530) 364-7138 or in Asia 66-2-381-2777 with:
· A cover letter addressing how he/she meets the eligibility requirements and
· A complete and current resume/curriculum vitae including recent photos teaching in class.

SCHOOL YEAR IN AMERICA PROGRAM

This is an exchange opportunity for qualified international educators to teach as full-time faculty members at American public and private educational institutions from one to three years as a cultural exchange participant. It is possible to apply directly to participate in this program or be selected through the SCHOOL VISIT PROGRAM as we have the occasion to interview and observe the teacher literally “in action” in the American classroom and academic community and can therefore often better make a satisfactory placement.

LOCATION OF PROGRAM—Visiting teachers will be placed in schools, colleges and universities nationwide based on availability and the background and preferences of the teacher(s) applying.

PROGRAM DATES—are generally from August through June each year, following the American school year, although some placements may be possible during summer school from June through August.

LOGISTICS—The teacher participant has the option of living with a paid host family where two meals per day are provided or may opt to stay in a hostel or apartment. TeachUSA will assist with the room and board arrangement and options.

TRANSPORTATION--Participants in some locations may be able to use public transportation to go to school on a daily basis but it is strongly suggested that all participants arrange to buy or lease a car during their stay and this being the main reason a valid driver’s license is required of all applicants. Round-trip international airfare is normally provided for all teachers who fulfill their exchange commitments

INSURANCE—health, accident, disability and optional dental insurance coverage for those accepted and taking part in the program.

REMUNERATION-- All participants receive a competitive stipend which varies depending on the location in which you work (US$ 25,000 to $ 35,000 per year on average) and on the experience and educational background of the teacher.

VISA—The participants will normally apply for and come under visas handled by the program for all successful
applicants.
